When Should My Child See an Orthodontist?

The American Association of Orthodontists recommends children have their first orthodontic evaluation by age 7. At this stage, your child’s smile is still developing, making it easier to spot potential concerns early—even if everything looks perfectly fine.

The LilliPad Club makes that first visit easy, comfortable, and fun, too!

Why See Dr. Lilli Early for Free Growth Monitoring

As a member, your child will receive ongoing check-ins as they grow — at no cost to you. Dr. Lilli's goal is to use her extensive experience and training in jaw and tooth development to identify not only when early treatment would be a good idea — but also determine the best time. Here's what LilliPad Club members receive:

  • Complimentary orthodontic evaluations

  • Periodic growth and development check-ins

  • Early detection of potential concerns

  • Personalized recommendations based on your child’s needs

  • Guidance on habits, spacing, and jaw development

  • A clear plan for if and when treatment becomes necessary

It’s a simple way to stay one step ahead, so when it’s time to make a move, you’re ready to leap with confidence.

Gentle, Kid-Friendly Treatments We Offer

Not every little smile needs early (or phase 1) treatment, and you can trust Dr. Lilli to help you decide if it's right for your child. When it's recommended, it makes a world of difference and sets kids up for more successful treatment (called phase 2 treatment) later in adolescence — and many times it's a shorter treatment than they'd have had without a first phase. Some of the options Dr. Lilli might recommend include:

Invisalign First™ (Ages 6–10)

This is a gentle, wire-free way to guide your child's smile. These Invisalign clear aligners are designed specifically for growing mouths. They are super comfortable and make it easy for kids to keep brushing and flossing just like normal.

Palatal Expanders

This clever device gently widens the upper jaw. It’s a great way to fix crossbites and make sure there’s enough room for all those incoming permanent teeth to grow in nicely.

Thumb-Sucking Habit Appliances

If your little one is having a hard time stopping a thumb or finger habit, we can help. This gentle appliance helps break the habit, protecting their teeth and jaw from shifting out of place.

How We Make Pediatric Orthodontics Fun for Kids

We know visiting the orthodontist can feel like a big step—for both kids and parents. That’s why we’ve created an experience that’s welcoming, encouraging, and built around your child. We want your child to love coming to see us! Their first visit is designed to be fun, stress-free, and totally informative.

  • A Friendly Tour: We’ll show you around our high-tech office.
  • Digital Photos & Scans: We’ve ditched the goopy molds. We use the iTero™ scanner to take a "3D picture" of their smile.
  • Experienced Care Check-Ups: Dr. Lilli will look at how their teeth and jaw are growing.
  • The "Stay or Go" Plan: We’ll tell you if they need a head start now or if they should simply join the LilliPad Club and be monitored as they grow.

Staff is very friendly and knowledgeable. They made my daughter feel at ease when fitting and inserting her appliances.

Does my child need a referral from their dentist?

Nope! You can reach out to us whenever you’re ready. We love chatting with family dentists, but you don't need a referral to book your free consultation.

Will my child definitely need braces later if they do Phase 1?

Phase 1 sets the stage, but most children will still need a shorter Phase 2 (like metal braces or Invisalign treatment) once all their permanent teeth are in to put the finishing touches on their beautiful smile.

Is the first visit really free?

It sure is! Your consultation, iTero™ scan, and exam are all on us. We want you to have all the facts so you can make the best choice for your family.
